Preparing for smart product-service system (PSS) implementation: an investigation into the Daimler group

This paper aims at investigating the main factors behind advancing integration of products and services in Brazilian subsidiary Mercedes-Benz (MBB), how Smart PSS has been perceived by other business units Daimler Group. We conducted an in-depth qualitative single-case study research to investigate critical steps preceding implementation a smart PSS. The was based on tactical areas model which applied MBB’s possible their equipment (called Fleetboard) solution. findings demonstrate that internal culture product-centric automotive manufacturing firm can prohibit sales services, even when service technologies are available. On hand, financial pressures create sense urgency required for appreciate necessity change. process change is too complex, since it requires capabilities key such as law, marketing, networking/partnerships, design, sustainability, organisation human resources management. Our shows company considers alternative options order reduce organisational barriers, develop partnerships legal competence offer contracts, well seeking alignment between marketing sustainability requirements.
